SaaS Website Security Startup StopTheHacker Launches Commercial Services Based on Initial Funding Round

Investment Fuels Ongoing Development and Sales Push for Emerging Internet Security Player

SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - Feb 13, 2012) - SaaS website security services provider StopTheHacker has received $1.1M in initial funding from public and private investors including Runa Capital, an early-stage venture capital firm, and Brian NeSmith, former CEO of Bluecoat. Andre Bliznyuk, Partner at Runa Capital, has also joined the company's Board of Directors.

StopTheHacker's proprietary, patent-pending technology helps solve web-scale security problems involving malware on websites and other types of online abuse. StopTheHacker allows organizations of all sizes to automatically prevent, detect and recover from hackers and malware attacks. The funding will help propel StopTheHacker's marketing and sales efforts, its engagements with new commercial partners worldwide and development of its product offerings. It will also help foster partnerships with other security-minded organizations, including StopBadware.org, a non-profit whose charter is to fight malware online.

"We invested in StopTheHacker because it represents the future of the security market," said Andre Bliznyuk of Runa Capital. "StopTheHacker's is a new type of protection for websites, vital for the majority of today's business owner. It allows them to feel confident that their websites, online business and their customers are receiving constant, proactive protection, without the need to install additional software or hardware."

"Safeguarding internet websites is where the future of security is headed," said Brian NeSmith, former CEO of Blue Coat. "I invested in StopTheHacker because it represented breakthrough technology in the security area. It does not rely on the standard signature-based methods of protection, rather an artificial Intelligence (AI) engine constantly monitors new strains of malware to build a profile of emerging threats. This is a necessity in today's changing threat landscape."

Today more than 75% of hosted websites have vulnerabilities. Six thousand websites per day are blacklisted by Google due to inadvertent malware infestation, and between 2.5% and 5% of all hosted websites are infected -- similar to infection rates for virus-besieged PCs 10 years ago. Current anti-virus software catches only 40% of harmful web malware, and more than 100 million websites are not protected in today's changing landscape of malware threats.

Using Machine Learning (ML) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques, StopTheHacker's suite of website healthcare services helps catch more malware than other solutions on the market. Based on four years of research at the University of California, Riverside, and originally funded by the National Science Foundation, StopTheHacker's AI-based engine has self-adapting capabilities, constantly monitoring new strains of malware to build a profile of emerging threats. This allows StopTheHacker's services to identify zero-day attacks originating from never-before-identified malware. Their SaaS model is streamlined, cost-effective and efficient, requiring no specialized personnel, hardware or software installations. StopTheHacker's suite of services includes Website Health Monitoring, Vulnerability Assessment, Blacklist Monitoring and Reputation Monitoring.

"With the number of web servers growing rapidly, there is a corresponding escalation in expert and inexpert hackers' attempts to capitalize on website vulnerabilities. The problem is extraordinarily widespread. The impact on brand, reputation and customer retention represents a serious expense for cloud-based and online businesses," said Peter Jensen, CEO of StopTheHacker. "By partnering with StopTheHacker, Web-hosters and service providers can reduce support and data center costs, caused by hacker attemps, and main a more secure infrastructure for their customers."
