Not Alone Receives Grant From Wounded Warrior Project to Bolster Nationwide Counseling Services for Veterans and Their Families

Grant Provides $424,000 in New Funding

NASHVILLE, TN--(Marketwired - Sep 4, 2013) - Not Alone, a national non-profit organization that provides confidential, no-cost programs and services to warriors and their families facing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other invisible wounds of war, today announced that it has received a $424,000 grant from Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) to strengthen its counseling and support services across the country. As part of the grant, Not Alone and WWP will collaborate to expand Not Alone's free services, including in-person and online counseling, support groups, peer mentoring and retreats, an endeavor consistent with Wounded Warrior Project's mission to honor and empower wounded warriors.

"This grant provides crucial funding to extend Not Alone's services to our nation's servicemen and women," said Debbie Cagle, Interim CEO of Not Alone. "With this new funding, we will be able to reach thousands more people in need. We are thrilled to work with Wounded Warrior Project to see that service members and their families affected by the invisible wounds of war receive the support they need to cope with life after war."

Not Alone serves all Americans whose lives are impacted by war including any Veteran, Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve war fighters from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard and Marines. The organization also offers services to the family members, children and loved ones of the men and women who serve in our nation's military. All services provided by Not Alone are confidential and offered free of charge.

The WWP grant will support the expansion of counseling services in all 50 states and fuel additional online services that offer a safe, anonymous and accessible outlet for veterans and spouses to learn coping skills and share life experiences, and support a 24-hour crisis hotline for any veteran or family member.

In addition to individual or family counseling services by licensed counselors who are sensitive to military culture, counseling groups are held on site at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky and support groups are held at Ft. Jackson in Columbia, SC, Ft. Riley in Junction City and Manhattan, KS and Ft. Stewart in Georgia. The organization offers weekend retreats to help veterans thrive in their communities as well.

The new funding also will support peer mentoring that is available through Not Alone's help line, blog and video blog, which has 43,500 followers. Each peer mentor is trained in empathetic listening, suicide prevention, domestic violence, and communication skills.
