Aberdeen Publishes IT Infrastructure, Virtualization & Cloud, Networking & App Performance Research

Research Examines US vs Europe Cloud Adoption, Sharepoint and SQL Deployment, New Network Technology Adoption, the Free APM Trend

BOSTON, MA--(Marketwired - Aug 13, 2013) - Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company (NYSE: HHS), today announced the publication of five new research reports from its IT Infrastructure/ Virtualization and the Cloud, and Networking and Application Performance research practices.

"Who is Adopting the Public Cloud Faster, North America or Europe?"one of three reports authored this month by Dick Csaplar, Senior Research Analyst for the Aberdeen IT Infrastructure/ Virtualization and the Cloud research practice, shows that companies based in Europe adopted the Public Cloud earlier, and are using more Cloud services than companies based in North America. Europe has endured a double-dip recession and resident companies report more operational and financial pressures to adopt the Public Cloud than companies in America. As a result, European companies, on average have been able to reduce their IT spending and headcount numbers to a greater degree than their cousins in North America. Next from Dick Csaplar, "On-Premise or in the Cloud -- How the Best-In-Class Deploy SharePoint" shows that there are now five basic ways to deploy an application, either on-premise or in the Cloud. Leading enterprises are more likely to deploy SharePoint in the Cloud using a SaaS deployment model or in-house on a virtualized server. All other survey respondents were most likely to have SharePoint deployed in-house, on a physical server, without the benefit of any server virtualization. The leading enterprises are clearly gaining the advantages of the Cloud and server virtualization when it comes to supporting SharePoint collaboration. To obtain a complimentary copy of this report visit: http://www.aberdeen.com/link/sponsor.asp?spid=30410182&cid=8566&camp=2

Finally from Dick Csaplar, "On-Premise or in the Cloud -- How the Best-In-Class Deploy SQL" shows that deployment methods for SQL are very different from those in the previously referenced SharePoint report. SQL is still predominantly deployed on-premise by most companies; however leading enterprises are more likely to have it deploy on a virtualized server. All other survey respondents are most likely to have their SQL database deployed in-house, on a physical server, deployed without the benefit of any server virtualization. Forty-two percent (42%) of the leading enterprises have SQL deployed in the Public Cloud, most likely on a Software-as-a-Service basis. To obtain a complimentary copy of this report visit: http://www.aberdeen.com/link/sponsor.asp?spid=30410182&cid=8567&camp=2.

"Don't Let the Rising Tide of New Technologies Swamp Your Networks," authored by Jim Rapoza, Senior Research Analyst for the Aberdeen Networking and Application Performance research practice, reports on the new technologies being deployed by businesses, and which technologies they plan to deploy in the next year. The report analyzes how new technologies break into the enterprise, where the trends are headed, and how these emerging technologies increase challenges and put pressure on organizations to improve their network and application management. To obtain a complimentary copy of this report, visit: http://www.aberdeen.com/link/sponsor.asp?spid=30410182&cid=8573&camp=2.

Also from Jim Rapoza, "Yes, There is Such a Thing as Free APM" examines the reasons behind why, in recent months, many vendors in the performance management space have released free versions of some of their products. Although not as functional as the "premium" pay versions, they provide basic core functionality for understanding performance management. In this report, we analyze the trends driving this move to free performance management offerings, and look to see if the demand exists in business to make these "freemium" offerings a legitimate driver towards increased deployment of performance management solutions.
